Opposition to medical cannabis unethical.

Cannabis has been the victim of a smear campaign for the last seventy years.  Cannabis has been used as medicine for centuries. Medical cannabis advocates find it to be hypocritical that tobacco and alcohol are legal in the United States considering the damage that they cause to  families and the economy and the nation’s health. People are needlessly dying of cancer and other diseases because of an intentional and calculated campaign against natures best medicine.

Canadian Rick Simpson, in a recent phone interview with Compassionate Care Alliance, made the claim that when people die of cancer it is nothing short of murder. Rick says that cannabis indica oil will actually cure cancer. Rick states that “Hemp oil” as he has chosen to call it has been used repeatedly in the last few years to treat and cure various forms of cancer including brain, lung, blood, and skin cancers.  Rick has made a documentary entitled “Run from the cure” where he tells of his own battle and victory over melanoma skin cancer and he gives the credit to cannabis oil.  He is quick to issue a challenge to anyone who is skeptical or thinks  he is a snake oil salesman.  Rick often encourages people to try to prove him wrong by simply taking someone who has a skin cancer and applying the oil to a band aid, place it on the skin cancer for a few days and watch the results. He says that if he is wrong he will shut up about Hemp oil. He hasn’t been shut up yet and he has been making the challenge for a long time.

So if what Rick Simpson claims is true then why isn’t this discovery the lead story of every cable news program, newspaper and magazine?  There are many reasons but we will  focus on the most obvious here in this article. Money.

Cancer is big business. Oncology, cancer researchers, and big pharma have banded together to feed the people who would be responsible for making medicinal cannabis legal their favorite snack. Yes, political donations made by the folks who collectively deposit billions of dollars annually into their coffers are what keeps medical cannabis out of reach.

If word gets out that medical cannabis cures cancer then people would grow it themselves in the privacy of their respective homes and the oncology doctors, pharmaceutical companies, and the cancer research fundraisers would all go out of business. Which also would mean that they would no longer have lobbyist greasing the palms of your elected officials. It is not in the best personal interest of U.S. Representatives and Senators to vote to make medical cannabis legal.

Every politician makes promises to those whom they represent to get elected and reelected.  They also make promises to their contributors.  Those with the deepest pockets usually win the loyalty of the politicians. To them it is always about gaining and keeping political power and sadly it is not about what is best for the people who sent them to Washington, D.C. in the first place.

The tragedy is this. Every day people are dying from cancer that could be cured and families are being devastated because we have elected narcissistic egomaniacs that refuse to allow a plant to be grown, harvested, and used for medicine.  If your Congressional representatives will not actively work to make medical cannabis available to those who are in dire need then it is your responsibility to find a candidate that will and help them get elected. It’s a plant, not the boogey man.
